Privacy Policy

The short version: the Clipper app has no accounts and no analytics. Your clips stay on your Mac unless you click Share Link. This website shows ads through Google AdSense, which uses cookies.

1. Who we are

Clipper is an independent Mac app, and this site (macclipping.com) is its home page. In this policy, “we” means the person who makes Clipper. You can reach us through the bug report form on the home page.

2. The Clipper app

What it records. With your permission, Clipper captures your main display, your Mac's audio and, if enabled, your microphone into a temporary buffer in your Mac's memory. Nothing is written to disk until you press your clip hotkey. Then the most recent seconds are saved as a video file in the folder you choose (by default, Movies > Clipper).

What we collect. Nothing. Clipper has no accounts and no analytics or tracking. We never receive your clips, recordings, settings or usage.

Log file. Clipper writes a small diagnostic log to ~/Library/Logs/Clipper.log on your Mac. It is never sent anywhere automatically. If you choose to paste part of it into a bug report, we receive what you paste.

Permissions. macOS asks you to allow Screen Recording and Microphone. You can revoke them at any time in System Settings > Privacy & Security.

3. When data leaves your Mac

Clipper only contacts the internet in these cases:

Share Link (only when you click it). Clipper uploads a copy of that one clip (by default a smaller 720p copy) to a free third-party file host (currently Litterbox/Catbox, with Uguu or Gofile as backups) and copies a link. Anyone who has the link can watch the clip until the host deletes it (from about an hour to a few days). The host receives the video file and your IP address and handles it under its own policies. Clips shared this way are not private.
Update checks. Clipper asks GitHub whether a newer version exists and downloads updates from GitHub. GitHub receives your IP address and standard request details, as described in GitHub's privacy statement. You can turn automatic checks off in Settings > Updates.

4. This website

Hosting. The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may log visitors' IP addresses and request details.
Downloads. The download button and download page ask GitHub for the newest version and file. Downloads are served by GitHub.
Clip player pages. A link like macclipping.com/watch/… plays a video that is stored on a third-party file host. The host receives your IP address when the video loads. We do not store the videos.
Bug reports. If you submit the bug report form, the details you enter (such as your name, email, macOS and Clipper versions, and your message) and your browser information are sent through the form service FormSubmit to our email inbox. We use them only to look into the problem and reply to you.
Advertising (Google AdSense). We use Google AdSense to show ads on the home page. See the next section.

5. Advertising and cookies

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also visit aboutads.info to opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a consent message lets you accept or decline cookies for advertising and manage your choices.

No ads or advertising cookies are used inside the Clipper app.

6. Your choices and rights

Delete clips any time by deleting the files on your Mac. Remove Clipper by deleting it from Applications.
Revoke Screen Recording and Microphone access in macOS settings.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data we hold. The only personal data we may hold is what you send us in a bug report. Contact us through the form and we will help.
For shared clips, ask the file host to remove the file; we cannot delete files from third-party hosts.

7. Children

Clipper and this site are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Changes

We may update this policy as Clipper changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
